911 & an Ambulance

I got a phone call from the school nurse that Jace was throwing up.  I had a day of cleaning ahead of me and did not need a child that was puking (ewww.....)  Needless to say I hoped in the car and got to the school in record time.  Jace had been having trouble breathing the past few days so I was hoping that his puking was not related to that.   Abi went up to check on Jace and told the nurse that he had an asthma attack this morning.  She checked his pulseox level, to have it come back at 69 (97 - 100 is normal).  She tried it on herself and could not get a reading.

When I got to the school Jace looked pale and lethargic.  I sat next to him, but he would not talk to me.  The nurse called his classroom to get his backpack and stuff brought up, while I called Kaiser.  The school nurse got the pulse oximeter to work giving her a 94 reading on herself and 96 on the secretary.  She tried Jace again and got a 74.  School protocal is anything under 80 something, she has to call 911. Meanwhile.... 20 minutes later... still on hold with Kaiser, the school nurse called 911.  Soon an AMR Ambulance and fire truck showed up.
This was not the actual ambulace, just this kind.
The paramedics quickly checked Jace out (finally got through to a Kaiser nurse --- 30 minutes later ---  and informed them that the paramedics were there.... she turned us over to the paramedics and said if needed to go to St. Mary's hospital).  Jace had shallow breath sounds and a low pulseox.  Jace was strapped onto the paramedics gurney and a breathing treatment of oxygen and albuterol was started.

Into the ambulance we went... here is Jace getting his breathing treatment while in the ambulance.
Then we got to the hospital, Jace received a blessing.  The doctor checked him out.  He still had shallow breath sounds and wheezing, as well as an ear infection.  He was given another breathing treatment and an x-ray, Tylenol and steroid shot were ordered.  He was really tired and just laid in the bed.
The nurse came to give Jace his Tylenol, which he threw up all over himself, the bed and some of the nurse.  Off the clothes came.  He got his Tylenol another way, and his steroid shot in his little bootie. They gave him a little hospital gown to put on.

Soon after we went for x-ray. Then daddy showed up. I think a combination of the Tylenol, steroids and daddy, made my little boy, very happy.  Daddy had a baseball and they played baseball with the monkey grandma bought and basketball with the puke bag.
We came home a little later.... all in all we were at the hospital about 3 hours.  Jace is doing better and will be seeing his regular doctor later this week.
