Family Bible

As many of you know I like to "do" lots of things. One of them is Family History. I teach the family history class at church and have been doing a lot of research on my own family, especially the past few days. One line I was able to trace back to the 600's. I also found a family member that came across to the US on the Mayflower... pretty cool!

Anyhow... so why am I posting. My great grandmother Blewett (who is still living) has a family Bible. She showed it to me once a few months ago. I have been thinking about this family A LOT! I asked my grandpa to get the Bible for me. It was a task for him to complete and failure was not an option in my mind. Well... a few hours after I challenged him to the task, I got a phone call telling me that he had it in his hands and that I could get it for the rest of the week.

Since I have to give it back (which I do not like to do with family heirlooms), I took pictures and made scans of some of the important Family Record pages. These pages have answered a lot of questions that I have been pondering about this line in my family.

Here is a photo of the bible. It is in pretty bad shape. The front cover has completely come off.

Here is another view of it.

This is the front of the Bible.

This is the inside cover. The writing is beautiful
The inscription reads:
Mrs. Hattie W Mitchell
From her Sister Binie????
Thy word is a lamp unto my
feet
And a light unto my path

This is a picture of the "Family Record" section of the Bible.

This is a scan of the first page of the Family Record section in the Bible.

These are the next 2 pages.

The last page of the family record section.

This is a picture of Erma Mitchell Grimes, she was 16 months old. She was born in 1890. She is the daughter of Hattie (or Harriet) Mitchell who the Family Bible belonged to. Hattie is my 3rd great grandmother.

I found this card in the bible.

This is another "lesson" picture card.

This is a Primary card, 2nd quarter 1900. It looks like Erma attended Primary every week.

This is a Valentine that I also found in the Bible.
These are all great family history heirlooms. I am glad that I was able to have the Family Bible in my possession, if only for a few days. It has answered some of my questions about names and dates.

Kasey, that is really inspirational! If only I had the time to sit and go through important documents like that..I need to make it a priority.
