They brought Madison out in a wheelchair, I thought great! I asked the health tech what she thought was wrong. She said "I think she just twisted it, I have seen many breaks in my time and this does not look like a break. Just take her home and let her rest." I asked if she thought I should take her to get x-rays. She said no it probably isn't necessary.
When we started driving Madison said it hurt really bad and she could not put any pressure on it. My "mommy instinct" said to take her in, so I called and got her in.
Well... I was right, she broke her fibula and separated her growth plate. Now she has a cast (after a trip down to Fontana). In 2 weeks we will see an Orthopedic and they will then decide what course of action we have to do.
Here are a few pics from the cast room in Fontana.
The first fiberglass layer.

The ace bandage was wrapped to help the fiberglass layer dry and to help mold it to her foot. It was removed before the 2nd fiberglass layer.

Cutting the toe off (still before the final layer)

The final cast. They only have "white" at Kaiser.

We will see how she does... no pressure on her foot and on crutches. She wants to go to school tomorrow, but we will see about that in the morning.

That casting room looks all too familiar...
So, they won't decide for another 2 weeks if she needs surgery? That seems like a long time to me, but I'm glad she's handling it well!
Tell Madison I hope she does all right with crutches and all. How did she hurt her self? That sounds like quite the break. From our experience of ER's and Orthopedic Surgeons, perhaps it is good they didn't want to do surgery right away, it gives you time to find a good surgeon you like, not just the guy who is on call for the day. Good luck!
Madison--way to go! Get lots of fun autographs. Add this to your journal of unfortunate events.
Madison what a trooper you are! Kasey I don't think you should take on ONE MORE THING this week....in fact you deserve a break just FROM dealing with this week alone=-)
