Today my family learned the meaning of fasting for someone in need. Our dear niece, Jordan, had open heart surgery yesterday. We joined a family fast, to fast and pray for her speedy recovery. Mike and I and all 4 kids fasted today, even Jace. The boys had a hard time getting through the day, but we all knew that it was worth it. Mike explained to the kids that the hunger pains that they were feeling were nothing in comparison to Jordan's surgery. They seemed to understand. We all lasted through church.... when we got home we had a little dinner.
Russell M Nelson stated “Prayer can . . . be enhanced by fasting. The Lord said, ‘I give unto you a commandment that ye shall continue in prayer and fasting from this time forth’ (D&C 88:76).”
We are so grateful for the power of the priesthood and the blessings that fasting brings into our lives. We hope that Jordan has a speedy recovery and our thoughts and prayers are still with her and her family

I love the theory that Mike said about our hunger pains is nothing in comparison to the person in need. Love it:) Good lesson for the family, I hope Jordan made it through OK.
