What a Day!

It has been a rough day!
Last night at the Mavs game Abi did something to her two front teeth and they were bleeding like crazy.

After a lot of spitting and swishing water and pressure on the teeth, I finally got them to stop bleeding. She complained the rest of the night and this morning about her teeth and gums hurting, I could not even pull her lip up to look at them and she could not even bite into bread!

I sent her on the bus and decided to call the dentist. They wanted me to bring her in right now (of course!) So I picked her up to take her to the dentist. I took her to her regular dentist out in Apple Valley. After waiting for over an hour, they finally took her back and took an x-ray. They said her 2 front teeth shifted about 1/4" to the right, (DUH! I could have told you that by looking at them!) but that there are no roots left so they should be any easy pull! Well of course that freaked my little drama queen... mmm I mean Abi out! (The dentist has no children and does not understand how we talk when we have kids around!)
The dentist put the jelly numbing stuff in her mouth not so gently. She could barely touch her gums herself and he was jabbing the Q-tip thing in her mouth! So she started to cry. Then he said that if she does not hold still he will not do any more. I understand that for her safety and his safety that she needs to hold still. Then he took the needle/shot thing from behind his back and tried to sneakily jab it into her gums. Well she grabbed the needle and he freaked out! I realize that it is not safe and she could have hurt herself or him, but come on be a professional!

So then I calmed her down and tried to explain that she needed it out and that the dentist needed to try one more time and that she needed to let him give her the shot. Well he did it again, not telling her what he was doing and she turned her head. He then tossed the needle/shot on the tray and said "I'm done" He then said that "this office will not try to extract those teeth again, you must take her to someplace that deals with difficult children." That upset me, so I kindly left.

I called Mike because I was very upset and crying... my poor little Abi is in pain and I can do nothing to help her. Mike talked to Abi and she agreed for me to take her to Mike and my dentist. I drove over there without calling, to Dr. Johnson's office in Hesperia and went in with Abi. I was still a little flustered and a little teary. I explained to the receptionist up front what happened and that I know her insurance would not cover anything that they did, but is there any way that one of the doctors could look at it. She said yes and that not to worry. I calmed down and so did Abi.

They took her back and took another x-ray with their cool digital machine. Dr. Doug came in and explained to Abi what her teeth did and why they hurt so bad. Then he told her that he could make all the pain go away if she let him pull them out. He then explained EXACTLY EVERYTHING that he was going to do. She agreed and he talked her through the entire thing. He was so gentle and fantastic. He talked to her about getting baptized and her favorite primary song while he gave her the shots. He wanted to let her sit and let the medication work a little before pulling the teeth out. After he left, Abi told me "I like him much more mommy, he is nice and gentle. I like that he told me exactly what he was going to do and when I opened my eyes he would stop."
After he was all done he told her that she looked like a Jack-o-Lantern and she giggled. They were great!!!

Here is my toothless Abi!
Here are her 2 teeth. Dr. Doug said that they hurt so bad because they were super pointy and sharp and because they got shifted in her mouth they were like a thorn in your skin.
I now know that if Abi needs anything other than a regular cleaning, I will be taking her back to Dr. Doug!

Yikes! I'm glad you found another Dentist to take her too. I hope these were her baby teeth? Things should not be so tramatic for kids.
