From Wheat to Flour

Today at our Relief Society Activity, Bro and Sis Budge taught us how to make bread from scratch (by hand... no mixer). They used fresh ground wheat flour. I have wheat in my food storage and I have a grinder (which was still in the box as of about 2 hours ago). I thought that I could do that.

The bread was really good... they also made scones which were AWESOME! I learned a lot from watching someone else make bread... learned a few tricks that I never knew and feel like I can do this. It was really nice that while they were making it we were able to see all the steps and feel the dough at its different stages.

Here is some wheat that I found in my food storage.

A few minutes later here is what I had, after I ran it through my grinder.

Whole wheat flour. I have no idea what consistency this is, I had the grinder set on the 2nd smallest dot. I am hoping to make bread or rolls with it tomorrow.
I also learned how to "proof" my yeast. I am really excited and hope my bread and scones come out as good as the ones we had today!

I hope your bread turns out well. I love making bread! (I cheat though and use my mixer)And there is something totally satisfying grindingmy own wheat to do it. I suppose it is the feeling of being self reliant. I have read that fresh ground wheat is packed with vitamin E, which is supposed to be really good for warts. So perhaps your kiddos that have problems with warts will benefit. Good Luck!
