Final Soccer Games... NOT!

Kade's soccer team finished the season last weekend (Nov 6)..... this past weekend was the region soccer tournament.... winner of this goes to Lancaster for Area or Section (I can't keep them straight) tournament in January.

Since his team placed 2nd for the season, we had a bye the first round.  In the second round, we played the winner of the 4 vs 5 game.  We played the grey team.  We won 8 to 1.  Here is a picture of Kade in that game.

Since we won, we played the winner of the 1 vs 3/6 game... of course the 1st place team won, so we played them.  They were undefeated in the regular season, so we hoped to have a close game... it was a very intense game!  At the beginning of the game the referee had both teams walk out together in a line and introduced them to the "crowd" (really just the parents on the sidelines).  Here is our team... what a bunch of goof balls!

At the end of the regular game, the score was tied 1 to 1.... wow!  We went to a two 5 minute quarter overtime.... still 1 to 1!  So it was time for 5 on 5 PK (Penalty Kicks).  I was not sure how this worked... basically each team picks 5 kickers and a goalie (the goalie can be a kicker too).  Coach Tracy lined up our first 5 boys... Kade, Kai, Jacob, Dalton, Nathan (also goalie)... each team goes back and forth on kicking... so the goalies switch in and out.  The goalie has to put both feet on the goal line and is not allowed to move them until the kicker kicks the ball. Pretty intense!

The PK's ended up going: first kicker both scored.. score 1 to 1; then the next kicker for each team missed; then third kickers: our team made it they missed... score  2 to 1;  then the fourth kicker for each team missed;  fifth kickers (both goalies)  our kicker made it, theirs missed... score 3 to 1.  So needless to say Kade's team is the Region 538 Tournament Champions... our season is not over... we continue onto Lancaster... tournament in January.
