Thanksgiving Part 1

Our Thanksgiving plans to go to San Diego and spend Thanksgiving Day with Mark & Rachelle and family and Grandma Sue and Grandpa Steve changed at the last minute.

Mikes step-mom, Marilyn, passed away on Sunday (Nov 21), so we decided to head to Arizona instead of San Diego to spend Thanksgiving with Frank.

We picked up Cheila and Hunter in Las Vegas, then headed over to Henderson for the night.  We drove across the new US-93 Bridge over the Hoover Dam that just opened (another post later) and headed to Payson, Arizona.
We arrived in the late afternoon on Wednesday.  Grandpa was glad to see us all.  He took us on a walk in the forest by his house to look for wild life. Here are all the kids and Grandpa.
There was a lot of elk and javelina droppings, so we knew there was wildlife nearby.  Kade even found a stick so he could make a poo-stick.  He tried to put this in every ones faces.
Cheila, Madison, Jace and I decided to stay still and let the animals come to us.  While Mike, Frank, Hunter, Abi and Kade hiked around.  It worked, we saw 2 elk.... I did not have my camera!  We all did get to see a couple of javelinas.
Grandpa explained to the kids about the elk rubbing the trees to sharpen their antlers.
It was a beautiful day!
We had good luck with the weather.  We only hit snow from just before Flagstaff, through Flagstaff and beyond about 10 minutes.  Overall it was great weather.  The kids really enjoyed seeing Grandpa.  After our walk, we headed to Pizza Hut for dinner.... then back to the hotel to swim!

I am going to break this trip and week up into several segments, so watch for them soon!
